I’ve used this app for several years with my virtual subscription. I’m used to the way it functions and find it generally ok. However, I wish there was a setting to limit the notifications. They are either off or very frequent. I leave them on because if there is truly a “breaking news” item, I want to know. Unfortunately, most notifications are just push notices for articles that are available and in many cases ones that I have already read. Please give the option for “breaking news” notifications only. I get multiple notifications each hour most days. I really only want critical news on my notifications.

    Version 10.0.40

Edited August 1: I use Chrome in Windows 11. I recently paid for an annual subscription. Sometime after July 18 the Puzzle button was restored, but every time I would click on it, a pop up asking me to pay to subscribe would appear. Logging in again would not stop this. Finally today I decided to try clearing the cache. I can now print puzzles, although not the ones I missed while on vacation when a new setup was instituted. I still cannot clip and save ads or portions of articles. This is a feature that I used in the past and hope to see restored in the near future. Edited July 18: The desktop app is still now missing the ability to print crosswords and other puzzles for ALL editions, not just those before June 30, as well as the ability to mark and clip a section of a page to print or download. Please restore these important features immediately. I sat down upon returning from vacation ready to read back issues and print out the puzzles. For a few days I could do so beginning June 30, but now the print button is entirely gone. We used to be able to mark and print portions of pages such as ads or portions of articles, but this capability is gone. Please fix this.

Reading on a phone in portrait mode might be natural and preferred; not on an iPad though. Recently, the Baltimore Sun turned off the ability to view the app in landscape mode. The response I received from customer support was something along the lines of they couldn’t format the ads properly in landscape mode. In other words - they don’t want to invest in what it would take to accommodate their advertisers in both portrait and landscape - and/or they don’t care about the iPad user experience. Every app I use, including news platforms, can be viewed in landscape. If not, they get deleted. Can you imagine Kindle going portrait only on tablets??? They’d go out of business, no doubt. How arrogant is it of the powers that be at The Sun to think their readers are just going to roll over on this so that the advertisers can be accommodated?? I am canceling my subscription. This review is strictly on the app, not the content.
